After Google has discontinued its Google Reader, its right time to find some great Google Reader alternative RSS readers.

Primarily RSS Feed Readers can be divided into two segments – desktop based and web based.

Desktop Based Readers –

1) FeedDemon

  FeedDemon is a feed reader comes with all features which you would expect from any RSS Feed Aggregator / Reader. A clear and easy to use interface, along with features like customizable view, Customizable Grouping, Sharing your favorite posts and tab based interface to open and read multiple article at once.

However on the down side, this reader felt a bit sluggish while performing actions.

2) RSSOwl 

RSSOwl is another feature rich Windows based RSS Feed Aggregator which is available for all  Operating Systems.

It comes with plethora of features with its extremely simple to use interface. You can choose from 5 different views to read the article, share your favorite article over social networking sites, Multiple Tabs for opening multiple articles and many more features which makes it a great choice for Desktop based feed reader.

Performance of this application was smooth and we never felt any slowness or any problem in using it.

Web Based RSS Readers –

1) Bloglines Feature packed Feed Reader. Allows to add feeds and Gadgets on multi-tab interface. Can be a bit complex at first because of the additional features, however one of the most professionally made site.

2)Feedly Its not exactly Web based reader, but its browser based RSS Feed Reader. It works on iOS, Android, Chrome, Safari and Firefox . It comes with minimalist design and simple customizable interface along with support for Social Networking sites. Nice way to read feeds across the Apple and Windows devices.

3)FeedSpot A web based news feed reader which has got Social features. Feedspot is a social network based rss readers. It makes is easy to follow what your friends are reading.

4) Sulia – This a new entry in the field of Web based news readers. Sulia is a subject-based social network that connects you to the top social sources on subjects you care about. A great app available on Web, iPhone and Android.

5) Google Current – A News Reader from Google which is worth considering. Google Currents delivers beautiful magazine-like editions to your tablet and smartphone for high speed and offline reading. You can choose and subscribe to your favorite sites under different categories to get regular feeds. Its available for iOS (iPhone/iPad) and Android  platform.
